"Why, Uncle Skip, why?" Kitty Engblom asked even though he wasn't present at the moment. He had her watching the store so he could run down to the liquor store and get more booze for his delicious beverage. Skip Engblom usually mixed a little vodka with some orange juice and drank it during store hours so if the cops showed up, he couldn't get arrested. Although, not many cops cruised around Dogtown. After all, it wasn't usually a place where people couldn't defend themselves, or that people messed with each other. Everyone in Dogtown pretty much got along with everyone else, although there were some people who didn't get along. Just like in every other place in the world.
Of course the one type of person that Dogtowners couldn't stand were the people from the Valley. They were called "Vals" to the Dogtowners, but to the Vals, Dogtowners were called "the Slum of the streets" and hanging out with them was called "slumming." It was a ridiculous notion by Dogtown standards, but then again, the Vals were the rich and more privileged people in the city of Venice. Then again, Dogtowners called Vals "kooks" also...or anyone who wasn't local. Locals weren't usually accepted in Dogtown either. They were especially not allowed anywhere near P.O.P or Pacific Ocean Park pier. That was their private spot where the waves were the best in Venice, and the Dogtowners would be damned if anyone not local cut in on their little piece of heaven.
Kitty sighed a little and looked around the store. It was dead and completely empty. "Oh how I wish for some company," she muttered from her spot sitting on the counter of the Zephyr Skate Shop where the cash register sat. Sure, Skip would probably yell at Kitty for sitting on the counter, but he'd deal with it. After all, they were all they had family wise. Kitty's family had died in a car crash when she was little so she had to stay with Skip her entire life, who was the brother of her mother. At first Skip was not enthused, but the more they were together, the more he enjoyed the idea and her presence. They were more alike then Skip could have ever imagined...and more then Kitty could have imagined.
Kitty jumped down from the counter and scratched at her forehead. She walked around the shop and began to straighten up various surfboards and skateboards before putting up shirts as well before she looked down at her own shirt. It was the typical navy Zephyr Skate Shop t-shirt except Kitty had made some changes to it. She had rolled up the long t-shirt sleeves and had tied the back of the t-shirt so it went up above her belly button. Skip didn't really care, which Kitty enjoyed since she hated boundaries anyway. It was one of the many reasons why the two of them got along. Skip was a guardian to a certain extent and Kitty didn't have to worry about Skip grounding her or anything.
As Kitty made sure the shop looked nice, the door opened, making her head whip around. Kitty was like her uncle when it came to keeping the shop a local only store. "Make sure you got ten bucks. It's ten bucks to browse," she said while looking at them before taking a step towards them. She smiled when she saw who it was. "Hey," she said with a friendly smile. It was just a friendly Dogtowner that she had known through a few of the guys. She thought that maybe Red Dog knew them, but she wasn't sure. It could have been any one of the boys who knew them, but Kitty had still seen them around with the boys.
