All abilities in Harry Potter have restrictions, right? Of course! So here's a little explanation of what each ability can and cannot do, and a little about how we treat it on this site. Occlumens and Legilimens, Legilimency. Occlumency is the ability to block one's mind from penetration by means of legilimency. Legilimency, on the other hand, is the ability to sense the thoughts of others. These are both very difficult arts to learn, and are thus very rare, and thus only five spots per ability are currently allowed. It takes intense training to develop any skill in these areas, especially if one plans to become a Legilimens and an Occlumens in tandem. Your character history and abilities should reflect this, if you choose either (or both) of these as an ability![/ul] Animagus Animagi have the ability, in short, to transform into an animal. They are limited to only one animal, and have to study and train for years to acheive this skill. This ability is also rare, and thus only ten animagi are currently allowed. Animals may not exceed the size of a bear, and no mythical creatures. Hogwarts students of any age may be training to be animagi, but only seventh years will have any chance to be accepted as full animagi. So please keep in mind how long it takes to be animagi! The Marauders were totally freaks, and should not be taken as the typical cases for this ability. :[[/ul] Metamorphmagus This ability is something that people are born with. They are inherantly able to change their appearance at will, from eye and hair color to sprouting a pig's nose. The difficulty of the change affects how draining it is to sustain. This ability also seems to be affected greatly by mood.[/ul] Werewolf Werewolves are created when a normal human or wizard is bitten by another werewolf. Werewolves are in human form at all times except for on nights when the moon is full. Then the wolf form emerges! By drinking wolfsbane potion, the wolf's violence is quelled, but never can this "condition" be cured. They are considered second-class at best. Because werewolves aren't the favorites of the world, and they're not the most common creatures, there are ten slots currently available for this ability.[/ul] Parselmouth This is another ability that people are born with; only five spaces are available currently. It's the ability to speak to snakes, basically. The talent isn't evil nor good by default; it's how the witch or wizard chooses to use it that influences how it's perceived. However, it's famous for being connected to many dark wizards, and thus is seen as spooky and evil.[/ul]
